Coffee And Cholesterol

coffee Coffee And CholesterolThe results of a 13 year long study carried out by Dutch medical researchers on 40,000 people clearly indicated that drinking both tea and coffee was beneficial in providing protection against heart disease.

People consuming more than six cups of tea daily, reduced their risk of developing heart disease by 30 percent and drinking two to four cups of coffee also reduced the risk. This benefit ceased when more than four cups of coffee were drunk.

Of equal importance is that the study showed no increase in risk of death from other ailments including stroke and cancer over those that don’t partake.

Coffee does have properties that could increase cholesterol while at the same time offering a benefit against the inflammatory damage caused by cardiovascular disease.

There are also conflicting reports regarding whether the health benefits obtained from tea are reduced if milk is added as it may diminish the properties of the polyphenols within the beverage.

Similar if a little lower finding by the American Heart Foundation suggest that the two to four coffees a day group lowered their risk by twenty percent.

In the UK a spokesperson for the British Heart Foundation welcomed this additional evidence that drinking both tea and coffee in moderation was generally not harmful and may lower the risk of developing heart disease.

This report also clearly states that being a couch potato, drinking excessive coffee and smoking all day will still substantially increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, not reduce it.
