Scientists Find A Diabetes Cure?

A type 2 diabetes cure for recently diagnosed people may be as simple as going on an extreme diet for two months, according to a report from Newcastle University, in the UK.

This small sample report clearly indicated that adopting a special low calorie diet produced excellent results on type 2 diabetes in people recently diagnosed. The researchers discovered that fat levels in the pancreas and liver were significantly reduced by adopting a low calorie, low starch diet This helped insulin production return to normal.

Positive Potential For Diabetes Cure

From the eleven people taking part in this small trial, seven were re-diagnosed as been free from diabetes three months later. It’s early days, but it clearly reinforces the understanding that dietary change to reduce blood sugar, and obesity levels, can have a dramatic effect on this disease. In this study the participants had been diagnosed as being diabetic within the previous four years, but the researchers believe it may offer hope for longer term suffers.

Diabetes Cure and Diet

The scope of this trial was to discover more about the relationship between the disease and obesity. By embarking on this (medically supervised) 600 calorie a day diet, consisting of only liquids and non-starchy vegetables, the researches found that the pre-breakfast blood sugar levels of all participants had returned to normal within one week.

Belief Not Universal

After the initial research period, all participants were allowed to resume a “normal” diet again, having received advice on healthy eating and portion size. Not all of them remained clear of the disease and more research is needed into the susceptibility of individuals. The link between obesity, high glycemic foods and diabetes is understood and as Professor Edwin Gale ( from the University of Bristol)
said

We have known that starvation is a good cure for diabetes. If we introduced rationing tomorrow, then we could get rid of diabetes in this country.

Not all scientists agree with the hypothesis that there is a diabetes cure, but this recent report clearly provides more hope for a total solution to the problem.
